Open Mic: Comedy in English
Everybody sometimes feels the need for a good laugh, and if Russian jokes are still too complicated for you, then don’t miss the opportunity of listening to some good jokes in English at the only English-spoken comedy in the city. St. Pete’s Comedy Cabinet takes place every Tuesday evening at Muchnoy Pereulok 5 where local and international amateur and professional comedians gather to try out their new material. Although quite new (the show started only in September last year), the weekly open mic is one of the most popular expat-events in the city and a great opportunity to meet new people. Besides the weekly live shows, St. Pete’s Comedy Cabinet also organizes a monthly event with professional comedians from all over the world. At the end of the quiz, the winning team and the absolute loser will get a surprise prize, so try to be the best, or do your worst.
Couchsurfing
If you are looking for a place where to meet locals and expats, look no further, the weekly couchsurfing event is all you need. Every week the couchsurfing community meets at Afrika art cafe on Ulitsa Pechatnika Grigor’yeva 13, and then typically extends the evening to other bars or at the karaoke bar Poison in Rubinshteina. The couchsurfing event is a great way to enlarge your circle, find a language tandem partner, or just have a social evening.
