5 St. petersburg parks you will love in autumn
02 October, 2017
In Saint Petersburg there are more than 200 parks and gardens, all with a lovely atmosphere. In the parks the soul of the city is captured. The ‘jewel of Imperial Russia’ is also considered one of the greenest Russian cities. The parks are especially gorgeous when the leaves start to turn red and when autumn hits the city.
It’s not difficult to find a park or a garden in Saint Petersburg, because there are so many. They are the perfect place to relax, breath some fresh air, enjoy sculptures and nature. Overall they all are certainly worth a visit.
Summer Garden – Летний сад
One of the most popular gardens is the Summer Garden. It is also the first garden that was built in the city by Peter the Great. It is located in the very centre of the city. It will stun you with its marble sculptures, beautiful flowers and tall trees. It also has some ponds and fountains. The Summer Garden is known as a masterpiece of the early Russian Baroque. This place is a must see for everyone and if you go make sure to not forget about the Summer Palace, it is astonishing. The most incredible colours you will see this autumn.
Michael Garden – Михайловский Сад
The layout of the Mikhaylovskiy Garden is one of a kind. It blends English and French garden landscapes into one and is known as one of the most elegant parks in the city. Located near the Church of the Savior on the Spilled Blood, it is nearby Liden & Denz and also in the city centre. If you choose to go there check out the Спас на Крови. From the outside this is one of the most stunning churches in Saint Petersburg.
Tauride Garden – Таврический сад
This Garden was built in 1789 and has a beautiful landscape. It makes for a perfect stroll around, whilst enjoying the nature. The park is located behind the Tauride Palace so be sure to visit that one too. It has some beautiful ponds and canals. There you will feel the romance of this garden. Today this park is considered one of the most picturesque spots in Saint Petersburg.
Catherine Park- Екатерининский парк
The park and the palace share the same name. It is divided into two parts. Into the Formal Park, that was built by the Empress Elizabeth, and the English garden. It offers nice alleyways and a typical garden architecture. It is not located in the city centre of Saint Petersburg, so you have to make a trip to Pushkin. This is a little town in the suburbs of the city. I would recommend visiting the palace and the park for a whole day. It’s worth a daytrip.
New Holland Island – Новая Голландия
This is not really a park but more like a whole island, focused on modern art. It is stunning and right in the centre of the city, so you don’t have to get out of the city to relax there. It is the perfect place to relax and calm down. There you have some bars and restaurants and a green spot in the middle of the city. You should visit the island when the sun sets because it has an amazing atmosphere.
The parks and gardens in Saint Petersburg are all very different from each other. So it is hard to choose between them.
But if you have already been to one, what is your favourite park?
Where have you relaxed and enjoyed some nature?
