5 Things to See at the Berthold Centre, St. Petersburg

The Berthold Centre is a creative space in St. Petersburg which has been developed in a former factory. It is composed of a large courtyard, and the buildings surrounding it are home to independent businesses, many of which are very unique. Here are 5 things not to miss during your next visit to the Berthold Centre.

At the back of the courtyard, you will find OVERSIZE Pizza Club. This establishment really does live up to its name, as it sells huge slices of pizza, with one slice enough to feed a few people (or one very hungry person!). Take a look at their instagram page here to get a feel for their culinary creations.

Rediska Shop

This is a really cool little shop selling handmade souvenirs and gifts, as well as artisan coffee. If you’re searching for a unique on-trend gift for someone, this is a great place to look. Take a look at their instagram page to see examples of the unconventional products they sell.

Laboratorio Distillita

Laboratorio Distillita is a small distillery which also has an impressive food menu. Their own spirits are very unique, for example they sell a mushroom vodka and a spirit made from dill. Their food menu serves some Russian classics, like the salad okroshka (окрошка) along with some Italian favourites, such as risotto. You can see more of their menu, along with what the bar is like inside, on their instagram page.

Head to the roof

A set of black stairs at the back of the main courtyard will take you up to the rooftop, where you can see great views over St. Petersburg. If you are scared of heights the walk up may seem a bit daunting, but it is definitely worth it for the view!

Stim Coffee

Stim Coffee is located on the left of the courtyard, towards the back. This cafe is known for its impressive selection of sirniki (сырники), as they sell 10 variations of it. For those who don’t know, sirniki are a popular Russian sweet treat made out of quark (творог), and are a similar shape to pancakes. Their flavour combinations include almond and coconut, hazelnuts and berries, and feta and sundried tomato. You can check out the menu on their website to discover more of their weird and wonderful creations.

The Berthold centre is a great place to spend an afternoon, and is worth a visit if you want to check out St. Petersburg’s alternative creative spots. To find out about another similar creative space in St. Petersburg, you can read our article ‘A small guide to Loft Project Etagi’.
