Hello post from Grace Dickinson
Today is an exciting, yet daunting day for me as I write my first ever blog. My name is Grace Dickinson and as the new editorial intern here, I have the pleasure of writing to you about all the wondrous delights that St. Petersburg, Moscow and Riga have to offer. I grew up in a quaint city called Durham in the North East of England so you could say I was a small town girl, living in a lonely world, that is until I took a (midnight) plane to St. Petersburg for the first time three years ago.
At university I study French and ab initio Russian. As a third year student, it is an obligatory part of my course that I am sent to a land afar in order to improve my language skills. When choosing between a year in France or Russia, naturally I based my decision on which country fared better in the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest…
Last year I studied in the history faculty at Moscow State University and absolutely fell in love with the rhythm of life in Moscow. As soon as I returned home in June, I was already planning my next trip to Russia, namely to the Liden and Denz school in St. Petersburg. (This should not be taken as a reflection on my family life, but as a reflection that Я очень скучала по России!) I have been studying Russian at the Liden and Denz language centre for a month and am really enjoying the course; it’s demanding but the teachers are very helpful and give lessons on thought-provoking topics.
For the next month, I will continue my Russian language studies at the school whilst interning as an editorial assistant. Each day I will blog about life in Russia to hopefully give you an interesting insight into different aspects of Russian culture. I will endeavour to write about a whole range of different topics, but if there is anything in particular you would like me to blog about, please let me know in the comments section below!
I am looking forward to exploring St. Petersburg and hope you will enjoy reading this blog!
