Holiday Program in St. Petersburg

Christmas and the New Year is close upon us. That means that it’s the time of the year for the whole city of St. Petersburg to get into the holiday spirit and begin its holiday festivities. Here is what you can expect for the next week. Don’t miss it!

On Pionerskaya Square (Пионерская площадь), there is a large Christmas Fair already underway. Here you can experience holiday customs and traditions from all around the world in each country’s little wood house exhibition. The fair will be open until January 12.

On December 22nd, Father Frost (Дед Мороз), the Russian version of Santa Claus, will be opening the holiday festivities with a parade on Nevsky prospekt (Невский проспект). The parade will begin at 19:00 and end once Father Frost reaches Palace Square (Дворцовая площадь) and lights the Christmas Tree! He will then proceed to Pionerskaya Square’s Christmas Fair.

On December 31st, the New Year’s celebration will being on Palace Square. The celebration is open to everyone and this year’s theme will be the Winter Olympics. There will be fireworks at midnight, launched from Vasilyevsky Island (Васильевский остров). The night will end at 4am, when metro lines resume service. Stay safe!
