Where to Brunch in St Petersburg

06 April, 2021

St Petersburg has an abundance of cool brunch spots right in the city centre. With so many to choose from, it can be difficult to know which places are worth a visit.  So, here are a few spots that I have tried and tested, and some more that I have been eying up online, and can’t wait to visit soon!

Счастье у Исаакия

A fun, but sophisticated, coffee shop just across the street from St Isaac’s Cathedral. Make sure to get there early and bag a window seat for the best views!

Price: approx. 600 roubles for brunch and a coffee

The Best Place For…

  • Amazing views of St Isaac’s Cathedral
  • Friendly staff (who speak good English- but will also patiently practice your Russian with you!)

Star dishes:

  • Super Bowls (Супер боул) – especially the chocolate (шоколадный)  one
  • Almond croissants
  • Smoothies

Restaurant Schengen

This restaurant not only oozes luxury, but manages to deliver high-quality food and service at a very reasonable price.

  • Cottage cheese casserole with Raisins and Vanilla Sauce (Творожная запеканка с изюмом и ванильным соусом)

A trendy Italian restaurant set up by two friends in 2016. The food is fresh, innovative and delicious, and the interiors scream ‘cool’.

Places I can’t wait to visit when I get the chance…

Мечтатели

A cool cafe in the centre of the city serving beautifully-presented food in crisp, modern surroundings. Mechtateli looks like the perfect place to try Russian sirniki (small pancakes made from cottage cheese).

  • Cool, industrial-style interiors
  • Classic Russian dishes with a modern twist

Star dishes:

  • Sirniki (Сырники)
  • Kasha with pear and hazlenuts (Овсяная каша с грушей и фундуком)
  • Sandwich with vegetables and poached egg (Сэндвич с эскаливадо из овощей и яйцом пашот)

Мойка 3

Recently opened, Moyka 3 is located right on the embankment and is serving up Russian cuisine in a playful, modern way. Although Moyka 3 has a limited brunch menu, what it does offer looks great. Be aware that breakfast is only served from 11am until 4pm.

Location: Embankment river Moyka, 3, St Petersburg, Russia, 191186

Price: approx. 600 roubles

The Best Place For…

  • Late breakfast/ brunch
  • Classy surroundings
  • Embankment location

Star dishes:

  • Shakshuka with homemade pitta (Шакшука с домашней питой)

Банщики

The food at Banshiki looks fantastic- as does the restaurant’s classy interior. On the first floor of the restaurant there is even a deli shop where you can pick up some of your favourite bits from the restaurant, whether that be baked goods, pies, sausages, smoked fish, or ice cream! Be aware that, like at Moyka 3, the opening hours are somewhat limited: on weekdays, breakfast is served between 11am and 12pm, and between 11am and 4pm on weekends.

Location: Degtyarnaya Ulitsa, 1А, St Petersburg, 191024

Price: approx. 600 roubles

The Best Place For…

  • Something new and trendy
  • Trying reinvented Russian classics

Star dishes:

  • Pancakes with condensed milk and berries (Оладьи со сгущённым молоком и ягодами)
  • House-made jams, which come in an array of weird and wonderful flavours: cherry, apricot, raspberry, strawberry, blackberries, walnuts and even spruce cone!

If you’re currently in St Petersburg, make sure to give these brunch spots a try and let us know your verdict in the comments!
