Riga blooms: the Ball of Flowers!

10 July, 2014

“God bless Latvia…Where Latvian daughters bloom, Where Latvian sons sing”. Thus recites one line of the Latvian national anthem. And the word ‘blooming’ could not be more appropriate, now that the The Ball of Flowers is taking place in Riga.

The Riga Flower Ball is the most important event of environmental design, as well as the most attended exhibition of flowers and decorative plants in the Baltic States. This event takes place on a yearly basis, and in previous editions the participation has ranged from 10 to 20 thousand people.

This exhibition showcases the floral wealth and proficiency of Latvian gardeners and promises to be a true delight to the eye of everyone who enjoys luscious gardens and the beauty of flowers. But that’s not all of it. The blossoming of the flowers is accompanied by a number of concerts of Latvian musicians, thus creating a real ‘Ball of Flowers’. Poetry, sculpture, design and other arts inspired by nature and flowers will not be amiss either.

The event takes an interactive approach and a number of seminar and workshops are offered to the visitors, such as pottery, hand paper-making art and preparation of decorations with natural materials.

Organised by the Botanical Garden of University of Latvia, the Ball of Flowers aims to acquaint the visitors with garden culture as well as to raise their awareness of the importance of biological diversity.

If you are in Riga, don’t miss this beautiful occasion to get inspired and enjoy the summer!

Venue: Botanical Garden of the University of Latvia; Address: Kandavas iela 2, Rīga, LV-1083.

Dates 10, 11, 12 July 2014.
